 PHOTONICS KNOWLEDGE TRANSFER NETWORK

In July 2006,the UK government agreed to provide £3.3million to fund the Photonics Knowledge Transfer Network over 3 years, as part of the DTI’s Technology Boards KTN Strategy.

Made up of its executive and partners, the PKTN aims to improve innovation performance in photonics and opto-electronics by increasing the depth and breadth of technology transfer in UK based businesses. The PKTN offers the opportunity for those involved in the photonics and opto-electronics arena to raise their profile both nationally and internationally through networking, technical and market events as well as seminars and suitable web based information.

The Photonics KTN will assist in and offer routes to sharing knowledge and in particular for WOF members, Welsh ‘know how’ and expertise. This sharing and gathering of knowledge will help in meeting the requirements of the growing photonics and opto-electronics industry.

As a member of the executive, UKCPO, WOF is an integral member of the PKTN and can benefit from this extra resource.

To assist in this, Susan Sheridan has now joined the team as the PKTN Administrator for Wales, based at the Welsh Opto-electronics Forum base in OpTIC Glyndwr Ltd, OpTIC Technium, St.Asaph. Susan is ensuring WOF members are represented within the KTN and that suitable and stimulating activities are brought to Wales as well as promoting Wales in the UK and beyond.

The next PKTN/WOF events are technical meetings days on Sustainable Energy 6th July - PV Solar, Wind, Hydro, Nuclear, HiPER & Astronomy 7th July - ESO Extra Large Telescope, JMU Astronet programme, Jodrell Bank, Around the World in 80 Telescopes, talking with Astronauts.
